Together we will explore two of the major citrus producing regions of Southern Africa, the Western Cape and the Mpumulanga Lowveld areas. These visits will offer you insights into the cultivars, cutting edge research, and the current farming practices required to keep this small nation ranking as one of the top citrus exporting countries in the world.
In addition, you will be ‘living it up’ in luxury accommodation, experiencing many tourist wonders and some secret 'off the beaten track' sightseeing gems. Prepare for your palate to be tempted to try many of the exquisite culinary and wine delights for which South Africa is also famous.
Your ‘Citrus Safari’ starts in the picturesque city of Cape Town, with a guided tour of the beautiful Cape Peninsula.
The next few days in the Western Cape area will include -
- scheduled visits to citrus farms and research trials in the main areas involved in the production of high quality citrus fruit for the USA market.
- many awesome sightseeing opportunities.
- visits to and wine tasting at several of the great local wine estates.
- visits to other places of local interest.
Your Safari group then moves by air to the Mpumalanga - Lowveld grapefruit growing area in the North Eastern corner of SA. This brings you onto the doorstep of the world famous Kruger National Park.
The following program awaits you in this area –
· meet citrus researchers from the Citrus Research Institute (CRI)
· 1 ½ days of citrus related visits
· visits to many of the local area sights
Then for Your Big Finale –
For the last few days of your trip, YOU are officially on ‘YOUR authentic AFRICAN SAFARI’.
We traverse the Kruger National Park to the heart of the Sabie Sands private game reserve area. Here you will complete your African bush experience in style at one of the exclusive luxury game lodges. The game viewing in this area is outstanding and you will almost certainly see the big five.
